Public Opening Conference in Stuttgart

On 14 December 2011, the opening conference of CluStrat took place in Stuttgart with about 80 participants

On 14 December 2011, the conference Boosting Innovation in Central Europe - New Cluster Concepts in Support of emerging Issues and cross-sectoral Themes took place in Stuttgart. The public conference marked the start of CluStrat and convened about 80 participants from across Central Europe and the Danube Region.

The event aimed at exploring both the challenges and the potentials of emerging industries related to overall developments such as climate or demographic change for clusters.

The conference was opened by Permanent Secretary Daniel Rousta from the Ministry of Finance and Economics of Baden-Württemberg. Afterwards, key note speeches from the European Commission's DG Regional Policy and DG Enterprise and Industry settled the project against the backdrop of the overall cluster and regional development policies at EU level. A third key note speech was provided by the Competence Center Emerging Technologies within the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI.

In the second part of the conference, cluster experts and practitioners from Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy and Poland discussed the expected impact of CluStrat for Central Europe and the Danube Region. The panel discussion was chaired by Dr. Petra Püchner, Managing Director of Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum which is the Lead Partner of the CluStrat project.

The conference was moderated by Prof. Dr. Norbert Höptner, Commissioner for Europe of the Minister of Finance and Economics of Baden-Württemberg and Director of Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum.
