Boosting innovation through interclustering strategies and smart specialisation policies

CluStrat and ClusterPoliSEE team up at the Open Days in Brussels

“Boosting innovation through interclustering strategies and smart specialisation policies” – on 08 October 2014, the lead partners of CluStrat and the South East Europe strategic project ClusterPoliSEE organized a joint workshop to share the findings of the two strategic projects at the Open Days in Brussels. Close to 100 participants from various countries participated in the workshop and following networking debate. The results of both projects, potentials for cross-project capitalization as well as implications for future cluster and cluster policy support measures in European Territorial Cooperation programmes – and beyond – were discussed with representatives from the European Commission’s Directorate-Generals Regio and Connect as well as the Joint Technical Secretariats of the CENTRAL EUROPE and South East Europe Programmes.

The debate thus fed into the discussion on future European cohesion policy, exchanging ideas with regional, national and EU decision-makers and experts on the main achievements of ClusterPoliSEE and CluStrat strategic projects. The results of developed policy learning mechanisms, new cluster concepts and related policy recommendations were showcased, inspiring debate on good regional, national and transnational governance, including IPA (Croatia, Serbia, Albania) and ENPI (Moldova, Ukraine) countries. The contribution towards creating growth and jobs by smart regional policies and the respective potentials of Emerging Industries and Key-enabling Technologies with a territorial impact were discussed in the light of ClusterPoliSEE and CluStrat findings.

The workshop was followed by a networking session, that provided participants the opportunity to meet with delegates and representatives with similar topical interest, to expose views and engage in constructive dialogue in the context of the cluster development.
